There are plenty of jobs in the digital marketing world today and skilled employees can choose to work full-time, part-time, onsite or remotely.
The world has changed, the "job for life" mentality is no longer there, people can choose to work for a few years then take some time off to travel and still resume work at the same or a level above if they are good at what they do.
As a Digital Agency owner this can be a challenge for you to find and retain top talent for your business.
The first place to start is to understand that the mindset of an employee is very different to that of an entrepreneur. When we start working to help agency owners with the challenges in their businesses the number one place we begin is to get an understanding of where the current team is at both personally and professionally by doing a team assessment.
Once you get a better understanding of where your team is at then you can make decisions on how to move forwards.
The root of the majority of problems that we have see in Digital Agencies is where the owner does not understand what his team needs and the team does not understand how the owner operates.
Here are some of the differences:-
Entrepreneurs Employees
Comfortable with taking risks | Risk averse |
Don’t like too many fixed plans | Enjoy making and keeping plans |
Like Change | Don't like change |
Don’t have structures | Love structures |
Make their own career | Like career plans |
Rarely check the time | Keep track of the time they’re putting in at work |
Have internal motivation | Need external motivation |
So the next time you are in a bad mood and think you, as the agency owner, get to bite the head off one of your employees, think again. You need these people in your business, they do not need you, they want to work with you for a reason.
